These Vegan Rice Krispie Treats are so close to the original, you won’t be able to tell the difference! They’re super easy, extra gooey, and so easy to decorate or add your own twist.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy – The process for these vegan rice krispie treats is the exact same as the real thing, just replacing the butter and marshmallows with vegan options.
  • Allergy-friendly – A lot of vegan rice krispie recipes use nut butters to replace the gooeyness of the marshmallows, and while that can be delicious, it is not so allergy friendly! These rice krispie treats are not only vegan and nut-free, but they’re gluten-free as well.
  • Blank slate – Rice Krispie treats are such a great option for a dessert when you want to add some flare. You can decorate with sprinkles, frosting, or whatever you choose to match the theme of the event.

Ingredients to Make Vegan Rice Krispie Treats

  • Vegan Marshmallows Dandies brand vegan marshmallows are so good. I’m not sponsored by them, I just really love these marshmallows. I would recommend getting the minis as they will melt easier.
  • Vegan Butter – Any vegan butter works!
  • Vanilla Extract – This adds a little extra flavor to this recipe, but you can feel free to omit.
  • Rice Krispie Treats* – Regular Rice Krispie Treats are not actually vegan, but there are plenty of puffed-rice cereals that are easy replacements.

How to Make Vegan Rice Krispie Treats

First, melt the butter in a large stock pot. Once the butter is melted, add the vegan marshmallows. Stir continuously until the marshmallows have mostly melted. You will have some chunks left, that’s ok! Vegan marshmallows will not fully melt.

Once the marshmallows have melted, remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and rice cereal. Mix until all of the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.

Transfer to a lightly-oiled 9×13 baking dish. It is super helpful if you have a baking dish with a lid to make for easy storage. Let the mixture sit for 20-30 minutes before slicing.

To decorate with sprinkles, top the mixture right away before cooling.

To decorate with frosting, wait until the mixture has cooled.

That’s it! Serve and enjoy!
