This easy vegan Buffalo Chickpea Dip is the perfect option for a quick appetizer. A plant-based replacement for traditional buffalo chicken dip, this makes a great option for a BBQ or game day dish to share. It comes together in under 30 minutes with just 4 ingredients.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Classic flavor – This buffalo dip gives all the classic flavors you’d expect from traditional buffalo chickpea dip, just without the chicken or dairy.
- Easy to adjust – If you want a smoother, creamier dip, you can use a bean like cannellini. If you want some extra spice, you can easily increase the amount of buffalo sauce or add diced jalapenos to this dip.
Ingredients for Buffalo Chickpea Dip
- Chickpeas – Chickpeas replace chicken in this plant-based version. You could make this with any white bean, like cannellini, but it would turn out a bit smoother than with the chickpeas.
- Vegan Ranch – Make your own or try one of the many store-bought vegan ranch dressings available. This helps balance the spiciness of the buffalo sauce, while also adding tons of flavor.
- Buffalo Sauce – Frank’s is my favorite (not sponsored), but you could use any buffalo sauce that you like. Feel free to increase the amount to ½ cup if you like it a bit spicier.
- Vegan Cheddar cheese – Violife is my favorite brand for both flavor and smoothness of melt (not sponsored, I just really love it).
How to Make Buffalo Chickpea Dip
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Rinse and drain the chickpeas and place them into a small baking dish. Use a potato masher to mash the chickpeas to your desired texture. You can leave some chickpeas whole or mash them all completely – up to you.
Add the vegan ranch, buffalo sauce, and half of the vegan cheddar cheese to the dish and mix until everything is evenly combined. This part can get a bit messy. To minimize the mess, you can do all of your mixing in a large mixing bowl then transfer to the baking dish once combined.
Top the dish with the remaining vegan cheddar cheese and bake at 350F for 20 minutes.
Remove from the oven, let cool a few minutes and serve with your favorite chip or veggies for dipping. Enjoy!
How to Store Buffalo Chickpea Dip
- Fridge: Leftovers will last 3-5 days in the refrigerator when stored in an air-tight container.
