Why You’ll Love this Recipe
- Simple ingredients – These are the perfect easy, chewy brownies and they’re made with ingredients you already have at home – no extra trips to the grocery store!
- Easy design – I promise, the decorating skills required for these brownies is like a 2/10. If you can squeeze a tube of icing, you’re good.
- Allergy-friendly – These fudgy brownies are vegan, nut-free, and gluten-free optional! All you have to do is swap for a 1:1 gluten-free baking flour and you’re all set.

Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – I use all-purpose flour for most of my baking, but you can swap for 1:1 gluten-free baking flour to make this recipe gluten-free.
- Cocoa powder – Make sure to use unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Sugar* – Granulated white or cane sugar works well for this recipe. A note about granulated sugar: Not all granulated sugar is vegan, make sure to choose a USDA Organic variety to ensure it is not processed with bone char, an animal ingredient.
- Baking essentials – Baking powder, baking soda, and salt round out the recipe.
Wet Ingredients
- Banana – Only one mashed banana is needed for this recipe. Try to use a very ripe banana so that it is easier to mash, but any stage of banana ripeness will work.
- Oil – Any neutral oil like vegetable oil or avocado oil will work. You can also use melted coconut oil if you don’t mind a slightly coconut-like flavor.
- Pure vanilla extract – Rounds out the flavors in this recipe.
- Non-dairy milk – You can use any non-dairy milk you prefer. I like oat milk or almond milk.
Decorating Ingredients
- Black or chocolate icing – If you can find prepared tubes of colored icing meant for decorating, these are the easiest to work with. Just ensure they are vegan as not every brand is. You can also look for black food dye and color white icing with that.
- Vanilla frosting or White icing – Same as above, just make sure the white color has a fine tip so you can get the circles precise on the smaller brownie surface.
Helpful Equipment
In addition to measuring cups and spoons, the following equipment is helpful for this recipe:
- Large mixing bowl
- Medium bowl – For mashing the banana.
- 2x Mini muffin tins (24-well)
- Piping bag and tips (optional) – If you can’t find piping bags, a plastic baggie with a tiny hole cut at one of the corners works too!
- Parchment paper (optional)
- Cookie scoop (optional)

How to Make
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use cooking spray to grease 36 wells in your mini muffin tins.
In a large bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients. Stir with a whisk until well combined.
In a separate medium bowl, mash the banana. Add the mashed banana and all remaining wet ingredients to the bowl with the dry ingredients. Mix until a smooth batter forms.
Use a cookie scoop or spoon to portion the brownie batter into the prepared pan. Fill each well only 2/3 of the way to prevent overflow.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Let the brownies cool to room temperature before decorating.
Decorating the Brownies
STEP 1: Spread a thin layer of black or chocolate vegan frosting on the top of the brownies.
STEP 2: Using a fine-tipped piping bag or prepared tube of white decorator icing (vegan), make a dot in the center of each brownie and 2 concentric circles. The brownies should look like bullseyes.
You can also try creating a spiral pattern, but I think the concentric circles end up looking more like spider webs than the spiral.
STEP 3: Using a toothpick or cocktail stick starting from the center dot, gently drag the tip from the center outward 5-8 times to create the spider web design.
STEP 4: That’s it! You can make these extra fun by topping them with gummy spiders if you can find vegan ones!

Variations
There are lots of ways to change up these spider web brownies to make them your own!
You can use melted chocolate and white chocolate to create the spider web design.
Use peanut butter instead of white icing for some uniquely flavored spider webs.
Swap out the granulated sugar for coconut sugar for a less-refined sugar option.
Add chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or fun Halloween sprinkles to these brownies!
How to Store
- Room Temp: Store these brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for 5-7 days.
- Freezer: Freeze the undecorated brownies for up to 3 months.
More Tips
- Not Vegan? Swap the non-dairy milk for regular milk. Swap the oil for melted butter. Use milk chocolate frosting or add regular chocolate chips to the brownies.
- Gluten-Free? Swap for 1:1 gluten-free flour and you’re all set! Just double-check your frosting choices.
- Oil-Free? Swap the oil for applesauce and find oil-free frostings to decorate.

FAQ: Vegan Spider Web Brownie Bites
Yes! Swap the oil for equal parts applesauce and make sure to find or make your own oil-free frostings. The brownies will have a bit of a cakier texture, but they’ll still be delicious!
